Dj DFUNKT
Dj DFUNKT (((Beats Brigade, Hitman Produktionz, Dax Presents, Fellowship Soundsystem, TheMML))) Best known for hurling phat wax at turntables and dropping serious basslines over unsuspecting crowds, this Santa Cruz skater kid has come a long way from sneaking in mix-tapes at keg parties in high school, to slayin' beats at underground warehouses, to warming up the capacity crowd for "String Cheese Incident" at the San Francisco Concourse for "Sea of Dreams". A true wax jockey since "Jose's Cantina" in Santa Cruz ('91-'92) and "Larry's" in Capitola ('93-'95), Dave Marquez aka "Dj Dfunkt" gained notoriety with a five year residency at the Blue Lagoon Club spinning and producing popular parties "Pitch Control" and "House for Rent" ('96-'01) Special guests included Rick Preston, Dano, Simon and Jonene. A Metro Bronze Award Winner for "Best DJ" in 1996 and creator of "Hitman Produktionz" and co-creator of the "Beats Brigade" with dj's Tim Steeley and Lokash, the '90s were formative years that laid a foundation for a prosperous dj career. The first Hitman Produktion event "Impact" August 1998 at the Brookdale Lodge featured John Howard, Solar, Markiss Anthony and two rooms of top talent - Early party influences include "Wicked", "Stompy Stomp", "Come-Unity" and "By The People". From Sponsorship to Operations Manager for DJ gear and fashion brand "ESDJCO" Extrastrength Disc Jockey Company ('99-'03) Dave's rocked industry tradeshow's "MAGIC" and "POOL" in Las Vegas and "ASR" in San Diego, as well as "X-Games" official post party with the Crystal Method at Club Townsend in 2000. Having worked with legendary promoters like "Spundae", "Funky Tekno Tribe", "Uniting Souls", "Anon Salon", "Raindance", "Dax Presents" and "NK7", Dave's earned his stripes alongside some of the Bay Area's most respected dj's - Highlights include heavy rotation spinning the "ESDJCO Invitationals", "Le Freak", "De Luxe" and "Jet Set" @ 550 Barneveld with Samo, JellyBear, Laron, Jonene, Dawn of Sound and Michael Anthony; resident for "SLIDE Underground" with Charlotte the Baroness, Nikola, Little John and Dj Tracy; "EAZY" @ Wish with Tal M. The Scritch
Birthed in a fiery caldera of an unnamed volcanic island in the South Pacific, The Scritch was raised on a strict diet of raw tubers, edible flowers and coconut water. Showing a clear affinity for heavy syncopated beats from a young age, he was schooled in the ancient art of the thunder drum by a blind shaman on an adjacent island. Fast forward several decades and we find The Scritch crisscrossing the globe, a neopagan hunter and gather of sonic artifacts that are crafted into a unique and memorable experience for the hungry, writhing masses. Equally at home in the booths of swanky clubs, on the floors of the filthiest warehouses and the wide open fields of massive outdoor festivals, The Scritch delivers the goods.
